Obstetrics & Gynecology

Interested in primary care, but can’t give up on surgery either? OB/GYN might be the place for you!

OB/GYN is a specialty consisting of two subspecialties:

Obstetrics, which deals with the events surrounding pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum

period, and;

Gynecology, which covers the health of the female reproductive system including but not limited to the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts.

This unique combo allows those specializing in OB/GYN to maintain long term relationships with patients in clinical situations while also flexing their skills in the operating theater with procedures such as hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and tubal ligation! The OB/GYN interest group is a student-run organization dedicated to educating students about the field of obstetrics and gynecology. This group serves to help students gain more exposure to this field through professional talks, open-table discussions, and campus events. In the past year, the group has hosted a birth delivery walkthrough with Dr. Conrad-Forrest, an OB/GYN mixer that allowed students to interact with local physicians and learn more about potential career options, and a mixer with matching M4’s to get advice and learn from their experience. In the upcoming year, we hope to continue to provide students with more information about OB/GYN residencies and subspecialties while also giving students a platform to advocate for women’s health and reproductive rights.
