EGIL is a currently existing 501(c)3 nonprofit entity with ties to CNU School of Health Science, UCLA, and Saint Mary’s College of California. Founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, EGIL addresses disparities in educational attainment in K-12 students through mentorship by students in STEM fields. EGIL aims to not provide academic guidance to students, but also to provide a self, welcoming environment for students to develop social and interpersonal skills. EGIL emphasizes a longitudinal approach to membership, with volunteers forming relationships with students through weekly sessions with elementary classrooms.
EGIL currently provides mentorship and after school tutoring opportunities at the local Pony Express Elementary School, and establishing EGIL as a SIG at CNUCOM would help facilitate recruitment and streamline logistics for volunteers in the CNUCOM student body.
